Stretching vs Warming Up Stretching vs Warming Up
Save Tip

This tip will help you determine whether it's better to warmup the body or to stretch before workouts. A few years ago, the top sports conditioning professionals had a rountable discussion about this subject. What they determined is that before any workout you should warmup the muscles through a series of dynamic warmups. Dynamic means in motion and if you've ever played sports, you know exactly what I'm talking about when I say High Knees, Butt Kickers, Arm Circles, Jumping Jacks, and Side Stepping. Those are much more beneficial than just static stretching (stretch and hold). Dynamic movements increase blood flow to the muscles and loosen them up without stretching them out. DON'T DO REGULAR STRETCHES. These motions stretch the muscles too far and if you perform any "exploding" or "heavy lifting" you will increase your risk of getting injured. Plus, you should gain more power and strength through your workouts with dynamic movements because of the preparation of the muscles.

ApolloFit It is a good idea to have a little stretch after finishing a cooldown, particularly if you do want to see an improvement in flexibility

CountAight I've actually heard of this before, and it does make a difference in your flexibility and range of motion as well. Good Tip.

Hulbs Nice info. Yeah I gave up doing static streches a while back after reading some similar findings.
