The Best Way to Lose Weight The Best Way to Lose Weight
Save Tip

I know it sounds contridictory, but there have been a lot of studies recently showing that strength training is actually one of the best ways to shed bodyfat. You burn more calories, increase your metabolism, and tone the muscles all at the same time.
Think about it this way. When you do a session of cardio, the amount of calories you burn stops once you complete the exercise. This is not the case with strength training. After you finish a strength training workout, your body actually has to repair and improve on the muscles you just worked so you can function normally and lift a little more weight the next time you workout. The result is that you actually burn calories for the next 24-48 hours.
The other reason for this, is when you tone up the muscles, you are actually building muscles just a little bit. This extra muscle actually increases your metabolism and you can burn calories like crazy!
Just remember, cardio is still important, so don't cut it out of your program.

OzzieOcean Strength training mixed with cardio 6 days a week and a healthy way of eating has been a huge benefit to me. I've lost 13 pounds and 4 inches off my gut that way.
Great tip!

ApolloFit Well, the best part about fitness is that there are so many theories and ideas about training, but they all are right in some way or another, other than the totally bogus ones haha.
What I meant with metabolism being boosted by muscle is that it for your body to maintain it needs to consume energy more efficiently and at a higher rate no matter what you eat (granted it's even higher when the diet is right).
I'm also not saying to cut out the cardio, but in the end strength training will burn many more calories when you take the recovery period into account.

Hulbs Interesting Post AF. For me atleast the best way to loss body fat does include strength training workouts 3-4 times a week, but its not the 'engine' fueling my fat burn. My 'fat burning engine' is largely as a result of diet and 30 minutes cardio training everyday. The trick is to make the cardio really intense. I mainly do high Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and when my body needs a more intense workout instead of going for more than 30 minutes i simply increase work intervals and decrease rest intervals.
Having said that on days that i lift weights i always lift first and then do cardio to maximise the 'fat burn' that doing weights 'sets up' in my body.
So i guess I agree with what your saying but my focus is a little around the other way.
