plucky Ouch, that sounds painful... It's definitely worth it to invest in a good pair of running shoes!

Carina Thanks for this info, plucky! I've always had a different shoe for different activities (spinning, cross-training, etc....) but for running, it's more specific than that. Last year, I messed up both of my big toenails (they were 1/2 lifted from the nailbed and took a year to grow back properly. Ouch!) because my shoe was not wide enough and probably a 1/2-size too small!

runningbear Thanks for the info and for the reminder that prices doesn't necessarily correspond with quality!!

plucky I've seen a lot of hardcore runners with Mizunos, so they must be a good choice. Just this last weekend, I was shopping for a replacement to my beloved ASICS Gel-Cumulus 8's. I was looking at the Gel-Cumulus 9's and I saw another model on sale, the Gel-1120. As far as price, they were one step down, and usually that means the quality is also one step down. But I inspected them closely and they resembled the Cumulus 8's as far as the sole design and the location of the gel 'compartments'. After trying them on (they fit nicely), I decided what the heck. Yesterday I ran 7 miles in those shoes and they performed very well. Time will tell how they hold up, but for now I'm very satisfied and highly recommend the Gel-1120's.

runningbear A friend of mine just recommended this site to me this weekend. I was relieved to discover that I'm already running in a shoe that's perfect for me, though I was never fitted to them by a pro. GREAT site, excellent information. Thanks for the post!! BTW, I run in Mizunos, and I absolutely love them!

JimB Choosing the right running shoe is crucial. I have very bad bunions, which put lots of stress on my hips. My podiatrist prescribed running shoes with an anti-pronation feature.

Jen24 haha it'd definitely be an original one

Ron Very useful! And, I too, have a pair of Asics. Good stuff.

MsFranklin I had a pair of asics before, I forget what model. But I got good use out of them and they lasted a while.

plucky Same goes for cross-training, too. The range is much wider for general cardio/cross-training, though.
